Sophie Tulga-Norman

 

Professional Opera Singer and  Voice Teacher who has performed at the opera houses and concert stages around the world. Ms.Tulga was born in Germany and raised both in Turkey and in Germany. She has performed as a soloist and a choir member at the opera houses, concerts, festivals, and recitals. She is a voice teacher who has taught voice lessons privately at schools and music studios for more than 20 years. A versatile singer and performer with experience in diverse styles like opera, pop and musical theater. She has a wide range of repertoire from Wagner to Strauss, from Mozart to Gerschwin to Menotti, Bernstein, Lehar and Webber.

 

She has studied Voice-Opera in Germany, Italy, Turkey and the United States with some of the world's premier professors, vocal coaches and conductors. She has also attended master classes and studied some of the finest conservatoires like Hochschule für Musik, Theater and Medien Hannover in Germany, Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart, Bilkent University Faculty of Music Performing Arts in Turkey.She had role preparation and solo performances under the well known pianist and solo Répétiteur Hilda Cabezas-Grabner at the Hannover Opera House in Germany. She then started to work at the Ankara State Opera and Ballet House  as a singer in Turkey. She has studied individualy with world famous opera singers and conductors, attended to their master classes like Mirella Freni , Leyla Gencer and Licinio Montefusco. While studying in the United States she had the opportunity to perform with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Additionaly she performed the lead role of "Orlovsky" in Johann Strauss, Die Fledermaus (The Bat) while attending the University Texas at Arlington. 

Some of her solo repertoire includes Cherubino in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro. Madam Flora in Menotti's The Medium, Mother in Menotti's The Consul, Charlotte in Massenet's Werther also some of her solo concert repertoire includes  Wagner's Wesendonk Lieder, Beethoven's 9th Symphony, Mahler 's Des Knaben Wunderhorn, Mahler's Der Jugendzeit. Her solo performances were in Turkey, Germany, Italy and United States.After moving to United States, She chose to complete her degree at the University of Texas at Arlington where she was awarded a vocal scholarship. She has also earned membership in Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Scholarship.

In her career she always found time to share her knowledge in years of experience with others. She has worked with singers, actors, teachers and performers to better understand their voice and how it is designed to function naturally so they can efficiently and effectively express themselves vocally. Additionally, she has taught individuals from various professional backgrounds how to find and use their own voice in a healthy manner, as well as rehabilitation for people suffering from vocal challenges. She is currently teaching voice in person and online from TulgArt Voice Studio  in Dallas, TX
